邮费又涨了 -- shape matters!

周一(5/14)开始实行新的邮费了，普通信件继2006年初之后再涨2分钱到$0.41。记得过去几年邮费颇涨过几次，每次还要去买2分、3分的邮票来补足邮资。这次邮局干脆发行一种以Liberty Bell为标志的"Forever Stamp"，现在按$0.41买进后，以后不管邮资再怎么涨都还可以用这种邮票，呵呵。

但这次不光是涨两分钱这么简单，最重要的一项变化是新邮费标准将采用按尺寸大小计费，shape matters!

Letter
* 3.5 ounces or less AND
* 6 1/8" x 11 1/2" or smaller AND
* 1/4" thick or less
Flat
* 13 ounces or less AND
* 12" x 15" or smaller AND
* 3/4" thick or less
Parcel
* More than 13 ounces OR
* Larger than 12" x 15" OR
* More than 3/4" thick

现在的邮费标准基本是以重量来计算，在一定重量范围内不管你的邮件是普通信封还是什么古怪形状的盒子，单位价格都是一样的。新的计费标准采用了所谓"shape-based pricing"，按邮件的尺寸大小分成三类：letter（普通信封）、flat(大信封）、parcel（包裹）三种，采用不同的收费标准，以鼓励人们使用轻巧便携的信封，毕竟一个扁信封要比一个奇形怪状的盒子好送多了。比如同是1oz重的邮件，letter只收$0.41，使用大信封就要收$0.80，如果再大包装算作parcel的话就涨到$1.13。所以如果再寄文件的话，如果能折成6x9寸的规格，将可以少付$0.39邮费，呵呵。

除了平信，其它邮费也都相应上涨，Priority Mail从$4.05涨到$4.60（没有找到寄到中国的international是多少钱），money order从$0.95涨到$1.05。
